We hope that you will care for your Otabo custom shoes as much as we do - as proper care is essential in maintaining the life, comfort, and appearance of your shoes.

Use a shoe horn when putting on your shoes; this will prevent excess wear to the heel.

After wearing, store your shoes using our red cedar shoe trees. Red cedar wood absorbs moisture, acid, and salts that damage the leather, fabric, stitching and soles of you shoes. They also help retain the shape of your shoes while smoothing out the lining and insoles, making them more comfortable to wear.

Give your footwear a rest between wearings. Fine leather shoes should always be allowed to dry naturally. Direct heat can cause leather to dry out and crack.

When traveling, pack shoes in a shoe bag; this will prevent them from being scratched and damaged.

For Dress, Tumbled and Pull-Up leathers, clean by using a soft damp cloth, gently remove dirt and residue, and allow to air dry at room temperature. Finish with an application of shoe cream or wax polish using a horsehair dauber brush. Remove excess polish and buff to a desired shine with a horsehair polish brush.

For Suede and Nubuck Leather, clean using a suede brush, brush suede that is matted, shiny, or dirty in the direction of the nap, using the brass wire bristle side of the brush. Once the leather is clean, use the rubber bristle side of the brush to brush against the direction of the nap. For spots or stains that cannot be removed with a suede brush, use a pumice grit eraser to rub the stain off the leather. Brush away residue with a nylon bristle brush. Pumice grit eraser should be moistened for extra hard to remove stains.

Do not use any leather protectants or water repellents, as our fine leathers have already been tanned to repel dirt and water, and such products will damage the leather's ability to do so.
